Devils Offense Stays Cold

The New Jersey Devils fall to the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. This is the Devils third loss in a row (2nd in regulation), as their offense continues to struggle. The Red Wings won despite their lineup being depleted, missing their top stars in Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg.

The Devils struck first, when defenseman Andy Greene scored a goal 13:43 into the game. Patrick Elias earned the lone assist on the goal. Cory Schneider was unbeatable for almost two periods. He made save after save, but Detroit scored with 36 seconds to go in the second period. Joakim Andersson scored to tie the game heading into the third period. The Red Wings took the lead 12:40 into the third, when Johan Franzen scored his ninth goal of the season. The Red Wings added one more on a controversial power play. Cory Schneider was called for playing the puck outside of the trapezoid, however, replays clearly showed that the puck was in the trapezoid. This lead to a power play goal by Tomas Tatar, which was his sixth of the season. This put the Devils in a 3-1 deficit, which they could not come back from.

With this loss, the Devils fell to 11-13-6 on the season. The Devils head to New York to play the Rangers in a much anticipated rivalry game at Madison Square Garden. The Devils won the first two meetings against the Rangers this season. The puck hits the ice tomorrow at 7:30pm.
