The Mets were looking to cap off a 3-game sweep of the Diamondbacks Wednesday afternoon. Dillon Gee on the mound for the Metsies, Brandon McCarthy for Arizona.

The Amazin’s would get on the board first in the top of the 2nd with an Anthony solo shot to left field. Mets take a 1 run lead.

Top of the 4th, the Mets would add on another run. Kirk Nieuwenhuis sac-fly to center field, Ike Davis would come in to score. 2-0 Mets.

Dillon Gee was perfect through 4 and 2/3 before surrendering a double to Martin Prado.

Top of the 6th, Andrew Brown leads off with a single to center. Kirk Nieuwenhuis lines out to left. Anthony Recker then doubles to deep left, Andrew Brown to third. Ruben Tejada is then intentionally walked to get to Dillon Gee. Gee grounds out to first, Brown scores, Recker to third, Tejada to second. Mets lead 3-0, McCarthy would be done for the day.

Moving on to the top of the 9th, score still 3-0. Addison Reed on in relief for Arizona. Eric Young Jr. leads off the inning with a grounder to the pitcher, Reed throws the ball away, Eric Young Jr. advances all the way to third. Daniel Murphy then singles to center to drive Young Jr. in. Mets up 4-0. David Wright up next, Murphy steals second, Wright drives Murphy in with a single of his own to left center field. Mets lead 5-0. That would conclude the Mets scoring for the day.

Bottom of the 9th, Jose Valverde on to close it out for the Mets in a non-save opportunity. He immediately surrenders a solo home run to left to Aaron Hill. 5-1 Mets, we’ve seen this before with Valverde is he about to implode? He gives up another home run to left, this time to Paul Goldschmidt, 5-2. I am really starting to get sick of Jose Valverde already! He then settles down to retire 3 of the next 4 batters and end the game. Jose Valverde never makes it easy!

Mets hold on to win, completing a 3-game sweep of the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks. Mets improve to 8-7 on the season, 6-3 on the road. They return home to face the Braves Friday night at Citi Field. Jon Niese vs Aaron Harang.
