April 10, 2015  Queens, NY  Don’t call ’em a law firm: Garcia, Peterson, Quillin & Lee.  But they would constitute one hell of a “fight” firm.  They’re an ethnically diverse foursome.  Lee is from Limerick, Ireland, and boasts a record of 34-2 (24 KOs).  He is facing Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin, a Cuban-American.  The Brooklyn-based Quillin is 31-0 (22 KOs), but apparently, Kid Chocolate had one chocolate too many and didn’t make the 160 lb. weight limit.  The fight has now been downgraded to a non-title bout.  In the main event, Danny “Swift” Garcia, the charismatic, 27-year old Boricua from North Philly, is undefeated with a record of 29-0 (17 KOs).  Garcia will face the tough and street-hardened Lamont Peterson, 33-2-1 (17 KOs) at a catch weight of 143.  Initially, Peterson came in above the weight limit, but he stripped off the tighty-whities which enabled him to make 143 on the button.

The fight will be aired on free broadcast television, tomorrow on NBC, starting at 8:30 p.m. (EST).  The bout is part of the Premier Boxing Champions’ movement to resurrect the sport by promoting bouts that can be seen by a larger audience.  NBCSN aired an hour-long documentary about the fighters that was very well done but very poorly advertised.  Moreover, NBCSN should have aired today’s weigh-in live.  It’s called marketing.  But still, hats off too NBC and NBCSN for committing to boxing.   Hopefully, the card will be a ratings bonanza which will increase boxing’s visibility, especially with a younger demographic.

Tickets can still be had at Barclays in Downtown Brooklyn.  Barclays is rivaling the famed, “World’s Most Famous Arena” Madison Square Garden in terms of staging events.  This fight, between Barclays and Madison Square Garden, is of a different nature.  It’s for the hearts and minds of  New Yorkers.  Barclays in the red corner.  Madison Square Garden in the blue corner.  This is great for New York City.

Tomorrow is about “The Firm.”  The firm of Garcia, Peterson, Quillin & Lee, and they better impress the jury (or should I say viewer?).
