Henrik Lundqvist tied Ranger great Ed Giacomin in shutouts with his 49th while reaching yet another milestone, 300 career wins. He is now 1 win away from tying Mike Richter for wins in a red, white, and blue sweater. Two more and he becomes the winning-est goalie in Rangers history. He needed to be sharp as he turned aside all 30 shots he faced in route to a 3-0 victory as the Rangers picked up a crucial two points with the help of goals by Boyle and Kreider.

Brian Boyle started the scoring with a shot the hit a Red Wings stick and up and over the pad of Olympian Jimmy Howard. John Moore and Dominic Moore added the assists on the play. Martin St. Louis failed to record his first goal as a Rangers but he continued to show great chemistry with Brad Richards and Carl Hagelin.

Only 14 seconds in the 3rd period, Chris Kreider tipped in a shot from the left point from Ryan McDonagh to increase the Rangers lead. McDonagh had yet another great game, averaging 22:49 minutes of ice-time. He would later get another assist, this time a secondary as Derek Stepan fed Kreider who managed to catch Howard off guard and give the Rangers some more insurance. With this win the Rangers leap frogged Philly for the 2nd spot in the Metropolitan but the Flyers do had one game in hand.
