The Long Island Nets are now in the midst of a 3-game winning streak after defeating the Maine Red Claws Tuesday night 120-111. The Nets did not need any late game heroics this go around. In their home-court return they came out the gates running and controlled the tempo throughout the entirety of the game. Though Maine showed a few flashes of resiliency they never captured the lead and even found themselves down 26 at one point of the game.

Nets guard Milton Doyle started the game on fire knocking down almost every shot he attempted to begin the game. Doyle scored 15 of his 28 points in the first quarter.  But though all signs were pointing to Doyle having a standpoint performance, Jeremy Senglin was subbed in and quickly captured the spotlight as he went on to record a franchise-record 40 points.

Senglin was very efficient tonight as he shot 14 of 21 (6-of-10 from three) from the field, 6 of 6 at the free-throw line and also recorded 3 steals in 32 minutes of action. Senglin seemed to gIMG_0353et better as the game progress. He scored 16 of his points in the first half helping the Nets to enjoy a 18 point lead. He came out of halftime with the same intensity and scored 24 in the second half that helped pushed the lead up to 26 late in the second half. Isaiah Whitehead also contributed to the win with an 18 point, five rebound, four assists, and two steal performances.

Maine also had some standout performances from some of their players. Maine guard Kadeem Allen didn’t go down without fight as he scored a game-high of 44 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals in 42 minutes of play. Also, forward Devin Williams had a strong outing scoring 16 points and grabbing 22 rebounds in his 30 minutes out the bench.

Though the Nets never trailed, the game was more competitive then it may seem. Both the Red Claws and the Nets did damage in the paint with both teams scoring 46 points. The Red Claws however outscored the Nets by 20 in second chance points. While the Nets had a track meet outscoring the Red Claws 27 to 6 when it came to fast break points. Both teams had shot great from the free-throw line. Though the Red Claws visited the line more the Nets shot the better percentage. Nets’ Coach Nored explained that the team needs to do a better job of not fouling.

Though Coach Nored expressed his happiness with the win, he did not shy away when asked how he felt about with withstanding opposing teams runs after leading by large margins. He admits “I just told our guys that I was really disappointed with the last five minutes of the game.”  He stated that though he was happy the team got the win the way they ended was not good enough. Coach Nored Interview

The Nets are currently sitting at 3rd place in the eastern conference standings. They look to move up and extend their 3-game win streak as they are set to face the Delaware 87ers Friday night.
