Brooklyn New York

The Brooklyn Nets

In their first two preseason games the Brooklyn Nets defeated the New York Knicks and Miami Heat respectively. Against the Knicks they scored 115-points and they scored 107 against the Heat. The players love the pace of this fast moving offense.

Against the Knicks they used a balanced scoring attack as 12 players scored during the game with seven different players scoring in double figures. Newly acquired D’Angelo Russell looked comfortable during the game as he led the team with 19-points shooting 7-14 from the floor.

The Nets have made it a focus to play faster and get shots from behind the arc which was apparent against the Knicks as they hit 16 of 32 from behind the arc. Another focal point for the season was the depth of the bench. Sean Kilpatrick, Joe Harris, Spencer Dinwiddie and Quincy Acy all had double digit scoring against the Knicks. Kenny Atkinson highlighted their play on Thursday.

“Very positive… you feel the difference, we have a strong one through fifteen. ” – Kenny Atkinson.

Agaisnt the Miami Heat the fast pace offense was again on display, three of the Nets first four field goals of the game were from behind the arc. It set the pace for that game as well. The bench was also huge, Joe Harris looked solid in his 18 minutes of action. He had 10-points on 4-6 shooting. He scored 7-points in about a minute and a half as his activity off the ball led to easy scoring opportunities.

“I like it… I like it a lot. ” Rondae Hollis-Jefferon

The difference against the Heat was on the defense end. They held the visitors to 88-points and limited their offensive efficiency by forcing tough shots. Trevor Booker had some impressive defense plays in transition. He pinned a Justice Winslow layup attempt to the backboard in transition, showing the usual hustle that he brings every night.

Kenny Atkinson’s vision of a quick hitting, player motion and ball moving offense has come to life in these first two preseason games. The players have adapted well and seem confident that they will translate this play to the regular season.
