EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The New York Giants have been itching to get back on the field, and finally put last season away for good. New York had a very forgettable season last year, and limped their way to a 3-13 record. Expectations are high for this season, as many believe that this team could be a wild card contender. For the start of training camp, this team has shown the focus of a contender.

The Giants struggled scoring the football last season, largely in part due to the abundance of injuries. However there are no excuses in the NFL, especially when you add a stud rookie in Saquon Barkley. Barkley’s physique is even more impressive in person, and instantly adds big play capability with each touch. What people don’t realize, is Barkley has shown great speed getting to the outside on runs during training camp. Barkley gets a lot of credit for his physicality between the tackles, but his ability to break runs to the outside is going to help the Giants add balance to their offensive attack.

The other big factor for the Giants horrid season, was the fact that they lost Odell Beckham Jr. with a season ending ankle injury. This stymied the Giants passing game, and led to inconsistency scoring the football. To start training camp this year, Beckham Jr. looks like he has recovered well. Whether Beckham Jr. is 100% healthy remains to be seen, but to see him out there making cuts should be encouraging for Giant fans.

The Giants are well aware that they need to make drastic improvements this training camp. There will always be pressure playing in the Metropolitan area, but this team looks ready to put last season behind them.
