March 13, 2015, Queens, NY  Even though he was a last minute opponent who lost every round before being knocked out in the fifth, Erick Bone fought gamely against former welterweight champion, Shawn “Showtime” Porter on the Spike TV broadcast of the new boxing series, Premier Boxing Champions.

Bone, who hails from Ecuador and resides in Queens, NY, replaced Roberto Garcia.  The fighters were cautious in the first round feeling each other out with feints and jabs.  Bone landed a good combination at the end of the round, but it was not enough for him to win the round due to Porter’s aggression.  In the second round, both fighters exchanged heavily at 1:41, with Porter getting the better of it, bloodying Bone’s nose.  Porter continued to be aggressive.

In the fifth round, Bone fell and appeared to twist his ankle when he avoided a wild overhand right by Porter.  The referee correctly ruled it a slip but Porter seized the opportunity and came charging at Bone.  Porter threw a vicious right-hand shot to the body, and Bone went down on one knee.  With 1:16 left in the round, the end was near for a bloodied but game Bone. Porter continued his assault on Bone’s body, and the punches immobilized him.  Porter trapped him against the ropes and pummeled him with lefts and right.  Bone went down landing on the edge of the canvas and valiantly struggled to beat the count but only made it to his knees before being counted out by referee Jack Reiss.

Porter’s record improved to 25-1, 16 KOs.  Bone fell to 16-2, 8 KOs.  Porter will probably get a title shot by year’s end.
