With both St Johns and Seton Hall tied for 3rd place in the Big East Standings, each side looks to get that tie breaking victory tonight in Madison Square Garden. St. Johns is coming off of a 19-point loss against Providence, and Seton Hall suffered a 1-point loss against Xavier just a few night ago; Each team looks for redemption tonight in MSG.

Shamorie Ponds has been in an offensive slump, going 2/14 against Villanova and finishing with just 4 points in their loss to Providence, but tonight, he came out on fire. Looking aggressive and attentive, scoring the first two buckets for the Red Storm, and giving the Johnnies a 5-0 lead in just seconds. St. Johns quickly pulled away from Seton Hall early in the first as they led by 15 points. Seton Hall would look to tighten up their defense as the game was underway.

Seton Hall looked lost, confused, and unprepared; missing their defensive assignments, and unable to knock down shots they trailed St Johns by 23 points early in the first half. With less than 3 minutes left in the first half, the Pirates tried to get back into the game, but St. Johns would not give Seton Hall any room for a comeback. St Johns takes a monstrous 18-point lead, 38-20 as the first half comes to a close.

Without Mustapha Heron, St Johns looked to continue to dominate the floor, but Seton Hall would not give up without a fight. They cut the Red Storms’ lead to 9, 40-31 early in the second half as they looked to gain some ground and make a comeback, but Shamorie Ponds and Marvin Clark II would make sure the Pirates would never recover.

Justin Simon slammed down a dunk in a clear open lane but a few minutes later would foul out of the game. Myles Powell and the Seton Hall Pirates were down by 20 late in the 2nd half, but with under 3 minutes left they would battle their way back into the game, trailing by just 6 points, 68-62. As time winded down, Seton Hall found themselves down 5, 68-63, with a minute on the clock; but with two fouls shots made by Marvin Clark II, this game was sealed.

St Johns defeats Seton Hall  78-70.


Ponds on Fire!!– Shamorie made it his duty to bring his offensive presence against the Pirates after a lackluster performance against providence, and that he did. Finishing with 27 points, and 5 assists, and even ending the game with a dunk, Ponds brought confidence to the court and led the Johnnies to a win.

Marvin Clark– Clark went 4-8 from behind the arc, and 6-10 from the field. Finishing with 18 points.

Powerful Powell– Myles Powell did as much as he could to keep Seton Hall in the game, while not getting much offensive help from his fellow Pirates. He finished the game with 26 points.
