Harlem came alive on Sunday, September 20, as the 57th Annual African American Day Parade brought thousands of residents, families, community organizations, performers, and visitors together along Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard. Despite steady rain, participants continued to march and celebrate African American culture, heritage, achievement, and community unity.
This year’s theme, “Good Businesses Sustain Our Future,” highlighted the important role of Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs in strengthening communities and creating opportunities for future generations. The parade featured colorful floats, marching bands, community organizations, and numerous performances.
The Grambling State University World Famed Tiger Marching Band led the procession, continuing a historic relationship with the parade that dates back to its inaugural event in 1969. The Apollo Theater was also recognized with the Community Institution Award for its longstanding cultural contributions to Harlem and beyond.
The celebration once again demonstrated the enduring spirit, pride, and unity of the Harlem community.
