An Offensive Stupor

ByVernon McKenzie

NY Jets: The Jets are looking more like the team from the pre-season in their last two games.  The offense continues to struggle – it’s clear they do not have enough weapons.  All the blame has been directed at Marc Sanchez, totally unfairly from my perspective.  Sanchez completed 21-of-45 passes for 306 yards with a touchdown and a pair of interceptions for the Jets.

When you don’t have enough play-makers, it forces your hand.  Sanchez has been trying to make things happen with very limited offense.  His only legitimate treat is Santonio Holmes, who delivered today with outstanding performance, 9 catches on the day for 147 yards.

Miami had possession to start the second half, but LaRon Landry stepped in front of Anthony Fasano to pick off Tannehill and returned the interception 18 yards for the tying touchdown just 44 seconds into the third quarter.  Although the defense made mistakes, they did enough to keep the Jets within striking distance.

The Jets suffered a difficult lost when Terrell Revis went down with a knee injury; the extend of the injury is still unknown at this point.  After Revis went down, the defense struggled mightily.  Revis’ replacement Kyle Wilson had a difficult time trying cover the Dolphins’ receivers.  A penalty on Wilson with 34 seconds left gave Miami the opportunity to tie the game at 20 and force overtime.

The Jets won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball first in overtime, but the drive would stall and they were forced to punt.  Miami drove the ball down to the Jets’ 30 yard to setup the winning field goal, but Dan Carpenter would miss from 47 yards out.

Giving the Jets a second chance, Sanchez would find Santonio Holmes down the sideline for 20 yards, setting up the winning field goal by Nick Folk.  The Jets won 23 to 20.
