CHICAGO, ILL. – The National Basketball Retired Players Association (NBRPA), the official alumni association for former NBA, ABA, WNBA, and Harlem Globetrotters players, named WNBA Washington Mystics Alum Markita Aldridge-Woods to the organization’s Finance Committee.

Ms. Aldridge-Woods, now a financial manager with over 15 years experience, is the first woman to serve on the organization’s Finance Committee. She played for the Washington Mystics for three seasons from 1999 to 2002, and upon her retirement, pursued a career in banking where she has worked for WestStar Mortgage, Hancock Mortgage, and other lending institutions.

Said NBRPA President & CEO Arnie Fielkow, “We are proud that our organization’s representation of and participation by WNBA Legends continues to grow, especially as we mark our 25th anniversary.” The announcement comes as the NBRPA and WNBA partner with the NCAA at the Women’s Final Four in Texas next week to highlight the growing presence of women in the game as professional players and fans.

Working directly with the WNBA league office and WNBA Players Association, the NBRPA continuously works to create programs that help former players transition to life after basketball while continuing community service and leadership through the sport. More than 900 Legends are NBRPA members.

“We are thrilled to have Markita join our Finance Committee,” said NBRPA Treasurer Casey Shaw. “Markita is a top-notch industry leader in her financial businesses and will bring a formidable business acumen to our team.”

“I am honored to join the Finance Committee for the NBRPA, and I look forward to contributing to the organization with a high level of dedication,” said Ms. Aldridge-Woods. “The NBRPA has made excellent strides in growing their WNBA membership and I am grateful to help build the role of former women’s players within this great organization.”

The NBRPA Finance Committee also consists of NBRPA Chairman Dwight Davis, Vice Chairman Mike Glenn, Treasurer Shaw, and Joel Kramer.
