49 Days until the opening of the New York Jets season versus the Cleveland Browns. To say the least the Jets will always provide some sort of excitement, but not always for the best, like in recent years a circus-type atmosphere. This year Jets fans hope for more positive reasons. With the additions of Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie, and the number 6 draft pick Leonard Williams the Jets look to easily have a Top 5 defense in 2015.
Much of this years focus centers around Jets QB, Geno Smith. Smith looked like a pretty good management QB in weeks 14-17 especially in week 17 versus division rival Miami Dolphins. Although Smith’s numbers looked good in the last quarter of the season he was heavily managed until being let loose in the last game of the season, which was a game that had no impact on the season, except their first round pick of course. With a healthy offensive line the question remains will Geno be able to limit turnovers and hit his newly acquired WR Brandon Marshall. Only time will tell. Heres a look how Smith faired in his last 4 games of the season:
Week 14- 18-29 254 yrds 1 TD 1INT
Week 15- 16-28 179 yrds 1 TD 0 INT
Week 16- 17-27 210 yrds 1TD 0 INT
Week 17- 20-25 310 yrds 3TD 0 INT
Training camp is the only time left for the Jets to get their offense right.Turnovers have been the big problem with Geno Smith. Over the last two seasons he has 34 interceptions to 25 touchdowns. That’s not starting QB numbers. What made things more interesting lately has been the announcement from the Jets that Smith is the starting QB, but many still have to believe that the leash isn’t very long. Recently acquired QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has been a serviceable player for a few different teams. Smith has to perform well and so far he has yet to throw a pick in the first four days of camp. With more weapons on his side of the ball all would think times will only get better for Smith. The fan base and myself for sure need regular season games to see the real Geno and whether or not last years end of the season performance was real or a product of meaningless season ending games.
