Jets Patriots Preview

The Jets come into Foxborough, MA to face the New England Patriots. New York is riding a 5 game losing streak. The past two weeks have been especially tough for the Jets. Week 5 they were shut out 31-0 in San Diego against the Chargers. Their last game against the Broncos was a tough pill to swallow. The defense did a good job of containing Peyton Manning and gave the offense a chance to tie the game late, but Geno Smith threw a pick six which solidified their 31-17 home loss. The future does not have a quarterback change in it. Rex Ryan week after week, has voiced that he is sticking by Smith. This has caused many to question his job security. Smith has had a very disappointing year. He has just a 57.1 completion percentage, with only 6 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.

The rushing attack of the Jets the past two games has not been where it was early on in the year. They mustered up only 31 yards of rushing against the Broncos, and just 68 yards between Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson against the Chargers. Facing a solid Patriots defense that is playing better each week, they will need the run game to step up. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that the Jets are depleted in talent in the wide receivers. Eric Decker hasn’t had the same success that he did with the Broncos. Jace Amaro came on last game, but needs to keep up the consistency. Amaro has 24 receptions for 212 yards on the year, and scored his first TD last week. Look to see Smith hit him early and often, which should free up Decker.

Greg Salas (Wrist/Ankle), Dee Milliner (Achilles) and Trevor Reilly (Knee) are both out for the Jets. Jerod Mayo (Knee) and Stevan Ridley (Knee) are both out for Patriots. They both are critical cogs in the Patriot defense and offense respectively. Look for Shane Vereen to have a bigger role, and the Patriots defense as a whole to continue to roll. With the Jets secondary still without an answer, and Smith bound to turn the ball over every game, I do not see the Jets coming away with a win on the road. Being on a short week, does not make it any easier for Gang Green.

Prediction: Jets 13 – Patriots 28
