Seton Hall and Georgetown have both exceeded expectations this season, and tonight they came to a head in a quarterfinals showdown.
Tip-Off
Myles Powell and the Seton Hall Pirates looked to take down the 3rdSeed Georgetown Hoyas. Both teams came out ready for action, both teams tied for the first few minutes of the first half, but the Pirates took off, going on runs and taking an 11-point lead with 10 minutes left on the clock.
Seton Hall has defeated Kentucky, Marquette and Villanova; their confidence is soaring and it has carried over into the quarterfinals. They took a 15-point lead and continued to be effective and efficient on both ends of the floor.
Coach Patrick Ewing did a phenomenal job with the Hoyas this season but it wouldn’t be enough to hold off Myles Powell who scored 29 points in the first half setting a Big East record for most points in a first half. He also outscored the entire Georgetown roster on his own. The Pirates led by 25 as the close of the first half. (53-28)
As the 2ndhalf was underway, Georgetown looked to make a miraculous comeback but their offense wouldn’t allow it. Missed layups and unable to knock down shots, they would trail by 20 with 4 minutes on the clock.
Myles Powell and the Seton Hall Pirates would prove to be too much for the Hoyas to handle. They would fall to Seton Hall 73-57
Myles Powell and Myles Cale combined for 45 points. They advance to the Semifinals where they will play Marquette Friday night.
