On the last Sunday of the NFL season, the New York Jets played spoilers. They defeated the Miami Dolphins, 20-7, knocking the Dolphins out of the playoff picture.

Geno Smith threw for 190 yards and ran for 44 with 1 touchdown. This was one of Smith’s best games of the season. Bilal Powell ran for 76 yards, while David Nelson caught 5 passes for 66 yards to lead in receiving. Nick Folk made 2 of 3 field goals to cap off the scoring for the Jets offense.

Huge plays came from the defense, as they held the Dolphins to 7 points. QB Ryan Tannehill threw for 204 yards and 1 touchdown, but had three costly interceptions. Ed Reed had one of the interceptions, while rookie Dee Milliner snagged two.

After the game, the Jets informed the media that Rex Ryan would be retained for the 2014 season. After not having high hopes to start the season, Ryan and the Jets exceeded expectations by finishing at .500 with an 8-8 record. They won their last two games of the season and played really hard for their head coach, who deserves another chance to bring the Jets back to the top.
