The New York Giants have made their 53-man roster public and here are some key takeaways that should make Giant supporters excited heading into 2024.
The season opener is rapidly approaching and the Giants have released their final roster headed into the 2024 season. This offseason, the Giants have suffered a ton of scrutiny, however there have been some highlights to build off. Many Giants supporters have grown to enjoy the production and work ethic of Elijah Chatman, therefore Chatman making the roster should bring joy to many. Chatman is the only one of this year’s undrafted rookies to make the team. Before Chatman was signed by the Giants, he was a captain and was 1,600-yard rusher in high school. In high school, he was also a decorated wrestler and a powerlifter.
“Elijah was a 31-vert(ical) guy, a 4’8 40 (yard dash) guy, a 32 bench rep guy, a 9’4 (nine feet, four inches) broad jump guy,” Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown stated on Aug. 20th of training camp. “All those explosive metrics give him an opportunity for being an outlier, and even though he’s 5’11, he’s got almost 33-inch arms. So, there are redeeming traits where you take the intangibles of how he’s built, how he’s wired, and figure out what he can do best. The coaches are motivated, … We’re glad Elijah (Chatman) is here.”
Another exciting prospect the Giants have found this offseason is Eric Gray. The Giants recorded three touchdowns all of preseason, two of them were delivered by Gray. The Giants offense as a collective recorded for 797 yards this offseason, yet Gray accounted for 138 yards on less than 20 touches, per ESPN. Gray’s performance against the Detroit Lions put the supporters and the league on notice. During the game, Gray rushed for 52 yards on four carries for two touchdowns. He’s given the Giants hope he cannot only be an asset in the run game but also the passing game as well.
“… I always said once I got to this point, I’m going to be a guy that helps out any way I can, giving any pointers that I can give them, any experience that I learned over the years,” Giants running back Devin Singletary explained on Sept. 4th of training camp. “I want to pass it along, because that’s what was done for me.”
Sunday evening, the Giants are set to take on the Minnesota Vikings at home. These two players may not see the field much, but when called upon they’ve both proven to be able to contribute. Gray may see some touches to relieve Singletary of carrying the majority of handoffs for the Giants. Chatman may also be gifted limited snaps to relieve one of the most dominating defensive tackles Dexter Lawrence II in football. Moving forward, these two have given the Giants coaches and supporters something to be optimistic about. They’re two key contributors that add depth and priceless value on an extremely young talented roster.
