Former Giant Jordan Phillips Trade Becomes Official

New York Giants trade veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips to division rivals the Dallas Cowboys for a sixth-round draft pick.

The Giants received a 2026 sixth-round pick and traded away veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips and a seventh-round draft pick to the Dallas Cowboys is now official. The Giants signed the 6-foot-6, 330-pound in hopes he would add valuable depth behind Giants captain Dexter Lawrence. He has played 75.59% of defensive snaps over the first two games, per Pro Football Focus. During training camp, Phillips struggled to gain traction with the Giants defensive line. He worked primarily with the third team during training camp before eventually being traded. He’s now appeared in two games for the Cowboys and has begun to see a reduction in his snaps.

“Cowboys DT Jordan Philips said he is going on injured reserve but there is nothing wrong with his wrist,” Cowboys beat reporter Clarence Hill reported. “He said his wrist is fine. It is what it is. He has to accept the decision of the organization.”

Despite the Giants 0-2 start, they can take comfort that Giants general manager Joe Schoen made the correct decision. Before the trade was finalized, Phillip had to be on the Cowboys 46-man game-day roster for two games for the pick swap to become active, according to Giants.com. As training camp resumed, it became apparent that he was either not an ideal fit in the New York system or was going to get beat out by others, making him expendable.

“I’ve played with some coaches that’s from the Zim tree, so it was just like riding a bike,” Phillips stated. “We knew it wasn’t going to work there… I didn’t know it was going to happen that quick, but I’m happy it did.”
