After 12 seasons in the NFL, with stints with the Carolina Panthers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks, Deon Grant signed with the Giants prior to the 2010 season. August 7th, Grant signed a 1-day contract to retire with the team he helped win a Championship. “I want to retire as a Giant because I want to be a Giant for the rest of my life,” Grant said in a statement.

Grant only played 2 seasons with the Giants, but he sure made an impact on the organization. After the 2010 season, Grant went un-signed until the Giants were hit with a rash of injuries in their secondary. The Giants called Grant and he happily signed a 1-year $4 million dollar contract; without having to go through the rigors of training camp. “My last year, I didn’t have to do training camp, came in and finished the whole season without having any injuries. I feel like it couldn’t get any more perfect than that,” Grant told insidefootball.com. He also said “A few teams called me up, but I always said, once I win a ring, I think I’m going to leave the game.”

The Giants coaches still refer to the safety, nickel, and corner positions that Deon played as the ‘Grant’ role. Deon gets to walk away with on his own terms, and as a Champion. Not too many people are lucky enough to get that opportunity.
