Monday Night Football is watched by NFL fans all over the country and the first week is always a must watch as football fans rejoice for the upcoming season. For the players in the Giants locker room, they are excited and appreciative for the opportunity to show the rest of the league what they are made of this year after a disappointing season that started 0-6 last year.

Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning feel special about being part of Monday Night Football to open the season.

“I think that it’s fair to say that a great percentage of the nation watches Monday Night Football, and so we’re excited about that aspect of it.” said Tom Coughlin.

Eli continued on what his coach said by saying, “Well, that’s special. For the networks to think we are deserving to open up on Monday Night Football in primetime is special. We’ll hopefully take advantage of that opportunity and go out there and play well.”

But, it wasn’t just Eli and Coughlin that are happy to be playing on Monday Night. The defense has spent all offseason trying to become one of the best secondaries in the league and hope to showcase that to a large percentage of the football world come Monday night. Giant’s Safety Antrel Rolle talked about playing on Monday Night Football and dreaming of these moments since he was young.

“As long as I’m playing the game, it’s never going to get old,” said Rolle.” That’s what you live for, that’s what you dream of when you’re a little kid. As a little kid, that’s the only thing that really stands out to you, the Monday Night Football, everything that goes with it. It’s a blessing to be playing in the first Monday Night Football game of the season and try to go out there and just play team ball and, like I said, get a win at all costs.”

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie thinks it will put more pressure on him considering he is a corner, but likes that they will be given a platform to shown what they’ve got.

“As a corner, that’s some pressure. You know who you are facing, but it gives a chance to go out and showcase who we are as a team.”

New York’s secondary has the talent to be very good this year and back up the talk. Lucky for them they may be receiving the ultimate test in just Week 1 with the always dangerous Lions offense . This is the perfect chance to make a statement on live national television.
