In their annual preseason matchup, the New York Jets will take on the New York Giants tomorrow night at Met Life Stadium. The Jets have won the 13 of the last 17 preseason meetings, but of course lost that crucial week 16 game to the Giants back in 2011. Whenever the Giants and the Jets get together, it is must see television.

Geno Smith will get his first (preseason) start in the NFL, after being named the number 1 guy by head coach Rex Ryan. It will be interesting to see how Smith’s ankle holds up after taking a nasty fall week 1 of the preseason. Week 3 of the preseason is regarded as the ‘dress rehearsal’ for the regular season, so barring any setbacks, it looks as if Smith will be leading the Jets this season.

On the contrary, the Giants come in clearly knowing who their number 1 quarterback is. However, the wide receiver situation is a little trickier. With Victor Cruz, Ramses Barden and Luis Murphy Jr. all expected to not play, we will get to see some of the Giants younger receivers. I am looking for Ruben Randle to show that he can play with the big boys of the NFL, even without one of their best WR’s sidelined.  Luckily for the Jets, they will not have to face Cruz, who torched them in the 2010 preseason for 6 catches, 145-yards and 3 touchdowns. That was the night that Cruz introduced himself to New York. Of course, we all remember Cruz’s NFL record trying 99-yard touchdown in 2011, which help power the Giants over the Jets, onto winning their second Super Bowl in 4 seasons. GM Jerry Reese also expects David Wilson to be the starter at running back come game time.

Although this is preseason, there are tons of story lines to watch. How will Geno Smith play? Who will step up at WR for him? Who will the Giants rotate in at linebacker? Is there still any bad blood between Rex Ryan and the Giants? These questions will all be answered tomorrow night.
