The Jets had to make their trip to Cincinnati without rookie wide receiver Jalen Saunders. Saunders was involved in a one car accident Friday morning. It happened around the Jets practice facility, but no further details were given on the situation. The Jets were also missing Eric Decker (quads), Chris Ivory (ribs), and Jeff Cumberland (Achilles tendon) from the offense and hope to have them ready for their annual preseason game against the Giants coming up Friday. Dee Milliner (high ankle sprain) and Dimitri Patterson (calf, quadriceps) were out on the defensive side of the ball as well.

Geno Smith was 10 for 13 for 98 yards in the preseason game. He threw for two touchdowns and only one interception. His lone interception came on a miscommunication on a route with David Nelson. Knowing that the starting job is basically his, and Vick’s acceptance of the back-up role has been a bright spot in giving Smith a boost of confidence. His play has shown that as he definitely improved from his first preseason game against the Colts.

Chris Johnson also made his case for carries in the regular season with his performance against the Bengals. He ran hard on 10 carries for 63 yards. He shared the time with Bilal Powell who scored a touchdown, due to Chris Ivory not playing.

The defense was not what we had seen from them last week against the Colts. Andy Dalton in his time seemed to be having whatever he wanted, partly due to a decimated Jets secondary. Dalton looked good in throwing 8 for 8 for 144 yards and a touchdown. The desperately need a healthy Milliner and Patterson to click on all cylinders in the secondary as they are still searching for a short term answer.

Calvin Pryor however showed he could live up to the expectations he has been given. Pryor had a huge impact on the game, tallying a tackle-for-loss, fumble recovery, two pass breakups, and two major hits which had the players on the receiving end not return to the game. In a secondary that didn’t look its best, Pryor was the lone bright spot, and gave the Jets some optimism looking towards the regular season.
