Knicks Edge Out Celtics In Game 1!!!

NY Knicks: “20 turnovers….that’s too much”, a quote from Kevin Garnett that pretty much summed up the outcome of the game. The Knicks took home a game 1 win over the Boston Celtics in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs, pulling out the win 85-79.  In what was a pretty competitive and tightly contesed game for the majority of the game, the Knicks pulled away in the closing minutes of the 4th qrt.

Both teams struggle from the field with the Knicks shooting 40% and the Celtics shooting 41%.  The Knicks buckled down on the defenseive end in the second half, holding the Celtics to just 25 (two shy of the playoff record for lowest scoring half) points and only 8 of which came in the 4th quarter.

A grind it out defenseive win is the best way to characterize this victory for the Knicks. Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin were huge on the boards as well as on the defensive end and coach Woodson acknowledged their efforts saying, “I like to look at what we did tonight as a total team effort but they were big”.

The Knicks and Celtics will have 2 full days to rest and game plan for  game two of the first round on Tuesday!
