NY State Of Mind

NY Giants: The stage is set for another East Coast battle between the Giants and Patriots.  But this time it’s for the Superbowl – America’s grandest sporting event.. This is the second meeting for the Giants and Patriots in the Superbowl.  In the last meeting it was the catch by David Tyre, that sparked the Giants victory over the Patriots in Superbowl 42 in 2008.

Great start for the Giants making things look easy, source on their second posession Manning to Victor Cruz, 9-0.  Earlier in the quarter the Giants forced a safety, the first ever for the team in a Superbowl.  New England looked out of sync, three and out on their first two possessions. Things finally started to change for the Patriots in the second quarter as Tom Brady got into  a groove with a record- setting 96-yard drive in the second quarter to take a 10-to-9 lead at half time.

At the begining of the second half the Patriots came out with the same fire. Driving the ball down the field 76 yards using the running  game to complement the short passing game.  The Patriots seem to have found their rhythm driving the ball down the field finally scoring there second touchown of the game, 17 to 10 Patriots with 8:23 left in the thrid qaurter. Could it be the game momentum the Patriot needed?

Not if you are wearing NY Blue.  The Giants really dug deep and found a way to change the momentum to the their favor.  Eli Manning played like the elite player he has become over last few years. Taking control in the fourth quarter, although he had to burn to key times out early in the quarter. Manning prove today that he should be mention among the greats to play Quarterback in the NFL.

What a fourth quarter preformance by both teams!  But the Giants defense made some key stops late in the fourth quarter, disrupting Tom Brady in the pocket, make him less effective, missing throws that he normally made 9 out 10 times.

Not so fast, Manning and the offense shifted gears, looking likew the team we have come to know over the past seven weeks.  Brandon Jacobs found his game pounding the ball, keeping the Patriots off balance, opening up the throwing lanes  for Manning and his core of receivers.  The play of the game Eli Manning finds  Mario Manningham for a 30 bomb to make things interesting with only 3 minutes left in the fourth quarter.

They would finally score a touchdown on the drive with 56 seconds left in game, taking the lead 21 to 17.   Would that be too much time left for Tom Brady to work his magic?  Not on this night –  not in the biggest spot light.  Mr. Clutch just couldn’t get the back he wanted, too many dropped balls, not enough time for recover.

Again Eli showed why he should be mentioned with the elite quarterbacks in NFL history, not to mention in Superbowl history. This is Manning’s second Super Bowl win and fourth for the NY  Giants franchise: 21 to 17 the final.
