A Spring Of Hope

NY Mets: Pitchers and catchers have reported to Spring training as the Mets prepare for another season in Queens.  It has been well published that the Met organization has encountered a financial setback.  Bad investments have forced the Mets to release some of their premiere players –  over the Winter, fan favorite Jose Reyes signed with the rival Miami Marlins.

The one bright sign for the Mets this spring is Johan Santana, former Sy Young winner, who began his comeback.  Although he is not expected to be a key factor early this season, at least there is a sense of hope for the fan base.

Because the Mets forgot to pencil a day of long tossing into Santana’s schedule, the left-hander will not pitch March 5 against the Nationals. Instead, Santana will push his entire schedule back a day, starting the team’s March 6 game against the Cardinals.

It appears Santana is on schedule to start on opening day, according to Mets manager Terry Collins.  Most of the reports coming out of Port St. Lucie have the Mets finishing last in their division. It will be an interesting season for the Mets, to say the least.
