There’s no question that the Giants are in search for better offensive lineman this offseason and that means they are looking everywhere for talent, including Canada. Meet Brett Jones. The 6’2″ 318 pound center from the Calgary Stampeders arrived for a visit with the Giants on Tuesday and went through a physical before signing with the team on Wednesday.

Jones was named the best offensive lineman in the CFL and helped his team to the Grey Cup. As an all-star twice in his first two seasons, Jones quickly caught eyes from a few NFL teams. According to sources he also had workouts with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Although many scouts saw the 23 year old as a developmental player, Jone’s size and CFL success makes the signing for the G-men worth taking the shot.

“They give me the best options,” Jones said. “It seemed when I visited them that they were the most interested. I just had a good feeling.”

For Jones, he was given a chance to prove himself in the CFL after not getting into medical school and now wants to prove himself in the next level.

“I’m excited for it and looking forward to going to voluntary workouts in April, doing all the (organized team activities) and mini-camps and actually starting to prove myself.”

“It was a big jump even from the CIS to the CFL, so this is just another step for me. Hopefully I’m able to adapt and prove that I can play.”

New York has obvious flaws in their offensive line and with not much competition on the current roster, even with a draft pick and a offseason signing Jones still has a good chance to see some playing time.
