The Jets Were Not Able To Keep The Panthers In Their Cage

The NY Jets fought hard but it was just not enough.  They fell to the Carolina Panthers, 30-20, at the Bank of America Stadium this afternoon.  Going into today,s game they had some hopes for their postseason but now those hopes have been stripped away completely.  If they played with momentum and no mistakes, a “W” just might have been the end result for the Jets.

Besides DeAngelo Williams’ 72-yard touchdown, the first half seemed like a battle of the field goals.  The Jets defense tried hard to hold down the Panthers but they just couldn’t stop Cam Newton and his offense.  Geno Smith was 15 of 28 for 167 yards with a touchdown pass and one gnarly interception in the fourth quarter.  He was sacked 4 times, twice by Captain Munnerlyn.  Smith was his own running back in the beginning of the first but that did not last long.  After Santonio Holmes talked about how weak the Panthers’ secondary was, he was expected to show up his skills, however, after dropping an excellent pass from Smith in the first quarter, things did not look positive for him and they weren’t.

Jeff Cumberland had a 35-yard catch and Chris Ivory had a 35-yard run.

With about 8 minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Jets committed their first turnover of the game.  It was a typical Geno Smith interception that was returned by Munnerlyn for a touchdown which made it Smith’s fifth pick-six of the season.  This pretty much summed up the game, the Jets locker room would be filled with the agony of defeat.  The pounce of the Panthers were unstoppable.  The New York Jets will not be seeing much of a postseason after all.
