Game 1 of the series at Citi Field between the Mets and Marlins featured young Mets phenom Zack Wheeler on the mound facing off against Henderson Alvarez.

After a couple of minor hiccups in the first inning, including an error by David Wright, Zack Wheeler settled down nicely putting together back to back 1-2-3 innings in the 2nd and 3rd.

Bottom of the third, David Wright would make up for his error and put the Mets on the board first with an RBI single to left. Eric Young Jr. would come in to score putting the Mets ahead 1-0. Daniel Murphy would follow that up with an RBI double to deep left field that would score David Wright from first. Mets lead 2-0 after 3 innings.

Top of the 5th, Miami would get a run back on a Marcell Ozuna RBI single to center. Derek Dietrich comes in to score, the Marlins cut the lead to 2-1.

Moving forward to the top of the 8th, the Marlins would take command of the lead. First Jarrod Saltalamacchia would homer to left center to tie up the game at 2 runs a piece. Garret Jones would follow that up with a homer of his own to right field. Back to back home runs by Saltalamacchia and Jones give the Marlins the lead 3-2.

Bottom of the 9th, Steve Cishek on for Miami to try to close it out, the Mets would put a rally together. Lucas Duda lead off with a single to left center. Travis d’Arnaud followed that up with a sacrifice bunt, advancing Duda to second. Bobby Abreu would pinch hit for the pitcher Jeurys Familia, he lined out to left for the second out. Omar Quintanilla is up next with 2 outs and a runner in scoring position. He singles to left, Lucas Duda comes in to score! Mets tie the ball game up at 3 runs a piece. Kirk Nieuwenhuis would then pinch hit for Eric Young Jr. and go on to double to deep center field, Quintanilla to third. Curtis Granderson is up next with an opportunity to walk off in style and get some of the pressure off his shoulders. He delivers with an RBI single to right, Quintanilla scores! Mets win 4-3! Nice moment for Curtis Granderson, hopefully he can use that walk off hit to build some momentum for himself going forward.

Mets improve to 3 games over .500 at 13-10. Game 2 of this series is Saturday night at 7:10 pm. Jenrry Mejia vs. Kevin Slowey.
