November 2, 2015, New York City After facing an upcoming suspension for operating a vehicle while impaired (OVI) over the weekend, Ohio State has announced that J.T. Barrett’s scholarship is now going to be temporarily revoked for the summer 2016 term. Urban Meyer, the Buckeyes coach, is disappointed about the entire situation but is taking the “you made your bed, now lay in it” approach.
“I love J.T.,” Meyer told ESPN. “But J.T. is going to deal with something he’s never had to deal with before. Now there is some question about who you are…20 years of doing something right, 30 seconds of doing wrong.” The quarterback’s scholarship withdrawal would only apply if he doesn’t fund his own tuition that semester, which would alienate him from team practices. It is easy to see that Barrett is going through it. How he chooses to handle the repercussions for his faults is what will define his character best.
